you could have a cap quarters the save size as a 1 man quarters it would be cheap, but your caption

will not do a very good job. Or you could have a large cabin with privet office (passably including a

personal AI Secretary). Now that would give bonus to your captions skills. The negative or bonus

skill could be the percentage of the ships square space it takes plus that rooms set bonus level.
The smallest cap cabin could be a -10 bonus but in the small hull it gets +10 for being 5% of the

total squares used. So there is a +0 bonus to your caption skill. The next size up has a set -8 and

is 10% with a +20. So you get a +12 to your cap skill. You just have to always remember haw much money

and space can you spare for your caption. There also could be high level captions demand a larger

cabin. That would keep you from putting an admiral level caption on a small cargo ship. Just thing

if you spent 20 years getting as good of a caption as you are. Would you work for a company that put

you in the captions seat on a cramped little nothing of a cargo ship.

P.S. You could also have a negative bonus for to far away from the bridge.

i think you need to spell check this...
also i think this would over complicate the system too much. A single quarter that if the size it is makes sense. captains always have the best place to live.

yes, i think some people have lost the plot in terms of suggestions for this game, the captain isn't supposed to be a hero, no skills are necessary, he's a commander, just being a part of the crew should be enough of a boost. Plus, considering the fact that this game aims to be a facsimile of how a corporation is run and not how a ship is run i don't think crew managment needs to have an incredible level of complexity, honestly, the game is still in it's early stage but ratakari's recent additions alone are beggining to add all new levels to how the game is played, going as far as some of your suggestion though, dev, i think is a little much.

and as for dev's spelling, el, it's not that he's spelling most of his words incorrectly it's just that he's spelling the wrong words (ie: captain =/= caption) that being said, dev, i understand english is not every contributors first language but please pick up a dictionary or something man, i'm a bit of a grammer nazi and it's killing me not to correct your post... ">.> i mean come on! the word is in the thread name for crying out loud... >.<"

English is my only language... I'm using spell check... but it is hard for me to ID the difference between words that look very similar (Dyslexia). Sorry... when i get worked up about something i like i start rushing. I should slow down and look at the words more closely. the captain word you pointed out took me about 30sec to see the differences between the two words even with them side by side...

now back to the captain quarters:
I thought someone said there was a skill bonus the captain give to the crew. The way a corporation builds ships is as cheap as possible with getting the most profit out. Some times that is fitting the crew in like sardines. Sometimes it is giving them the extra little touches so the crews moral is good. Ok for the people that wont a more simple set up. If the captains room has 3 sizes like most of the other rooms. Then that could give a +X,+XX, or +XXX to crew moral (replace X's with what ever number balances).

That captain bonus might actually be a benefit of prepaying early as in you will get your captain name and he will have a bonus to the crew's abilities.

Hmm, interesting thought. :)

The bonus is moral. Making the crew more effective.
The captains skill may reflect bigger bonuses but the size of he quarter shouldn't make a difference

as for size of the room, i think it's fair to say that the captain's quarters need only be twice the size of the smallest crew room available, afterall, it IS only one person we are talking about here, no reason for this guy to have a whole tennis court in his own damn room! XD

I just want to add that the captain's quarters serves a larger function than merely being his bunk. On board of most ships it serves a lot of other functions as well: you go there if you need to be punished, it is the administrative HQ of the place, a place to receive guests, and it of course simply serves an iconic function: it's the best bunk the ship has to offer and gives the crew something to aspire to!
