Judging from the difference between game downloads and youtube views, many first-time players dont seem view the video tutorials. I can certainly see why you would want to immediately "dive in", but there is a great danger of being overwhelmed at first - so I finally decided to creating a tutorial. I certainly dont want the game to be "offputting" because of its complexity - thats would I love about it (and I hope you too). It is quite simple, just guiding you step be step through building a very small ship, so that you can "learn by doing", instead of watching hours of video before you can start having fun

How about a layered tutorial? A layered tutorial begins with a basic set of instructions, such as what your example image shows. Then, after a condition has been met, a more detailed layer is activated. This could be by time delay (triggering speech hints), button press, or when an incorrect action is taken. Help button example: Attachment: LayeredTutorial-2Layer.jpg [ 20.95 KiB | Viewed 9495 times ] This could, for example, activate a short video of carrying out the action, with a spoken narration of the process of carrying out the task. |

I like it personally, but then again, I have a nack for games like this so I don't often NEED tutorial much so my +1 is rather moot ^_^" |
