I know there is but one ship available at the moment, and it's an alpha, but I feel it is too small. I hope this isn't a commonplace problem with the other designs.

There is just barely enough space to get the essentials let alone anything extra. You can get a good way through a design only to realize there is no possible way to fit the required missing rooms and have to restart or completely change your layout by removing half the design. This forces the player to focus too much on ultra efficient layouts. This hurts creativity as you don't have the luxury of making neatly laid out rooms with your own personal touch. It also makes symmetry very difficult should you desire it since the size of the rooms and the ship's build space ends up being evenly squared so that there is no "middle". For example, try placing 3 cargo bays aligned aft to fore from the aft end of the ship and you'll note you cannot have them evenly spaced. That seems, to me, that it makes the ability to design your own layouts largely pointless as currently you could simply click checkboxes for what rooms your ship has and be done with the same end result, having no input on the layout whatsoever.

Personally I love being able to micromanage and make my own stuff like this, but currently it doesn't feel on target to achieve that goal.

I agree. see also here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3855
I should include some missions with more freedom (and the custom goals = sandbox) in the next build.

Sounds good, and thanks for the reply. Good to see that won't always be the case, and that more freedom will be possible.

Very much looking forward to the future of this project!
