when we speak about "construction ship" hull , "mining ship" hull, all we have is a empty hull. ( in my view, it's the rooms configuration that make the ship special and not the hull type.)

the suggestions (or concepts) i offer are the following :

- make "specialized" ship hull have "special"(fixed) room so they can do their "special" duty. (for example, a minning ship hul would have some metal processing rooms and one or more robotic arms.)

- every "special" rooms would have their own requirement and therefore the hull would start with power, cooling and crew requirements.

NB: special rooms would not be unlockable like normal room are (and therefore could not be "built" on any ship), but as they are linked to specific hull (who would have them pre-built), their unlocking could be part of the price to unlock the specific hull.

- challenge would be increased as there would be some more space limitation. (depending on where the special rooms are in the ship. if it's in the middle of the ship, it could be problematic like the thing in middle of one deck of the "yantai erismax".)

that way:

- special ships would have their own bonus/malus. while "standard" ship would have more room flexibility but no bonus.

- their would be some more sense in the ship classification and messing around with the ship classification would make more sens too, as you could for example have player that attack the ships using the cargoship's hull XYZ because those ships have high cargo capacity and little room for the remaining rooms. and in same logic, you can have players that manage to place canons (or military quarters) on a XYZ cargoship, so they could retaliate and take the opponent by surprise. (in the ship list, you could have the scan of the ship giving, per default, data like the ship's size/name/classification, but you would need to get closer (or use better radar) if you want to know other kind of data like cooling capacities, weapons port,shields,...)


some ideas of special ships:

cargo ship's hull : with big cargo room. (bigger than normal cargo room), allowing it to carry more stuff while using less area.like for example, having a special cargo bay (the size of 2 standard cargo bay built one next to the other, but still with the wall separation )that give possibility to carry 1,125 time the capacity of 2 standard cargo bay. (as it would remove the wall separation, allowing more storage area.)

mining/factory ship's hull : mith some mining room and factories. like we have factory ship on earth, those ship would be harvesting asteroid and process the harvested metal on the way to the nearest colony. (could be used in combinaison with "construction/reparation" ship as the "mining/factory" ship could supply it with spare parts built on the spot).

construction/reparation ship's hull : equiped with robotic arm and other metal modeling/fusing tool, it could repair damaged ship (or salvage wreck). that kind of ship would be good for pirates and salvager as they could hide some weapon on it, blast a ship and salvage it for spare part. in addition, if their opponent retaliate and fail to defeat them, they can repair themselves using parts from the opponent ship.

a "high mobility" ship's hull : a small ship with it's engines on his side (like the "Serenity" from "firefly"). it would gain additionnal lateral thrust without using thruster room. however, would only have 1 engine room (or, to be precise, 2 half engine room. one near each engine and each one needing only 3 technicians for maintenance, allowing a reduction in ship crew but sacrificing speed in the process).

warship's hull: with some combinaison of special military rooms,like:
- some turrets on the hull's top
- a longitudinal canon,like the one equiped on the Yamato.
- a command center (in the center of the ship and on multiple level, but needing a lot of pilots and military, more than twice the requirement of the bridge. command center would work like a bridge but would also allow for concentrated fire on a given target. useful on big ship that would have a lot of guns, they could be gathered in firing group).

- fighter hangar, allowing better interception of incomming attack (like missiles and asteroids)
- ...

there could be many other kind of ship that have special traits, like better cooling system but ill placed, that could at the same time help in some ship-building missions and be really challenging in another missions.


NB: i would really like your opinions about that kind of suggestion as it could give the game another look.
