i have been thinking for a while how would the online game be played and came with a few ideas.

- online mission

missions, mainly travel between two station (orbital or not), could have a given amount of random encounter depending on the length of the travel and area you are travelling in (like area with known asteroid field or known pirate activity).

Therefore ships could be build specifically to travel in thoses "space lane".

that can be made as 2 dice rolls:

first dice roll decide if there is an encounter.

second dice roll, if there is an encounter, would decide the type of encounter. (with the most hardcore encounter, like xenomorph infestation, having low probability of showing up in common area but higher probability when going in uncharted area.)



- crew management: writing the "crew handbook"

as the game would be 24/7, you may not be there the whole time to monitor the welfare of all of your ships, so the mission we already have to test our ship could be used to program the crew (writing the "crew handbook")so they can automatically react when similar situation occur when you are offline.

therefore, building the ships and write the "crew handbook" (telling what they have to do in a given situation) would be the first part of the game, the second part of the game would be to send those ships and crew into deep space and hope they would complete the mission with sucess .(some easy mission would be short travel mission but gain would be small while long travel mission would be harder because there would be higher possibility of an encounter but gain would be substantially higher.)


NB: the possibility of an encounter (or event like a mutiny) could be low so most of the travels could be peacefull, generating small revenue that could repay you the price of the ship and bring even some benefice if the ship last long enough.
however, depending on your luck you may have multiple encounter on the same travel (if it is long enough) with the ship keeping memento of former encounter( like some doors being breached or some crew member being wounded at the start of the next encounter.)
