As part of the game a AI tactics menu should be created. After seeing the alert system for starship corporation it would be nice to expand upon that aspect. First is by the ability to add more to the alert readiness level and name them and assign the AI crew to do the various task. From what i "think i understand" the game offers a simplified version of this(I could be wrong =P)... The idea of expanding this feature would be nice...

Another idea rolling in my head is the ability to name corridors on a ship to help assign AI security teams to move to assigned corridors needed during alerts..

Another thing is assigning formations of a fleet durring combat. Creating your own formation of your ships so that they may more effectivly engage in confrontations.

On your second point.

Instead of having a corridor with a designator maybe have a list that you can create groups in.
Then each group with a drag and drop featured overlay could have a designated part of the ship to patrol.
This would include everything you place inside the box from rooms to corridors.
O possibly add a check point function to group. A patrol route.

Indeed. Thats a very good idea.
