To add even more complexity to the game I had an idea about customizable AI:s

*The different AI could be bought and sold
They can be specialized and optimized with added modules / research /bought code Mods
Buying Black market mods can have their rewards and their risks

*The larger the AI the more computer power is needed the more/larger data cores
it wouldn’t be practical for a small ship to have the same ai as a very large ship and a very large ship would need a more complex AI to function.

*The more complex, The more sentient =)

*Some advanced modules would require a specialized AI (FTL, Cloaking,…)

*To “Write” a great AI would take time and be costly. Why not capture one

*A Passenger ship might have an AI optimized for Life Support while a Battle Ship have a AI Optimized more for Shield, Self Repair,… and probably have some Firewalls

I like the Idea of this :) What also would be great is if it would be possible to write the AI yourself. A simple API would do it :) Maybe a Block System like in Lego Mindstorm used?
A Handcrafted AI would be very invaluable but the necessary tools would be costly as well (you would need an special item or ship that supports development of custom AI) :)

i like the concept. it would be pretty sweet to be able to build your own custom AI, kinda like building your own custom gaming computer in real life.

i can just imagine the AI being a huge priority in boarding missions. :twisted:

I like this idea customizable AI or may be better say customizable software in your ship. When you buy cheap software for your weapon system you degrease you efficiency a increased miss rate or can fail, if you buy military class software increased your efficiency of your weapons, but is very expensive. So, you can have specialized crew for hack to some parts of system and take control over it or disable. It is very great piece for increase complexity.

Ideas on software for ship
- Weapon system
- Defence system
- Inner defence system
- Navigation system
- etc.

It might be nice to be able to design a small ship with very complex AI that could be a formidable force against a large ship because of its AI. Somehow the investment in the larger functioning AI should be similar to that of building a large ship. Just a thought.

Reminds me of Mass Effect 2 with Edi. I like that idea, powerful AI = great defense/offense, like hacking the enemy ship's computer or firewall protection vs outside (or inside?) attacks
