So, here's some interesting things I've pondered that may, or may not be plausible/worth doing:
• Have it so planet-based installations can be attacked from the outside.
•This would mean you could have more than just marines, you could throw in some mechs, or tanks for assaults.
•A listening posts can be built, able to see a system, and see enemy movements.
•Orbital cannons to make it that much harder to attack a fleet above a planet.
•The ability to bombard a base from orbit, destroying it.
•Possibly a planetary shield to counter this.
That's all I have for now, I may come up with more brilliance/idiocy later.

I dont know about Ground based combat outside of the targeted structure. I think that might be a bit abitiouse for this. I'm all for being able to bombard the structures from orbit, reducing them to dust. But Command and Conquer style gameplay on plannet surfaces might be a reach.

The Vids say he's including synthetics. So maybe Mechs will be a cheap and cruddy version of one of those? Tanks on space ships.... I have trouble pictuing a tank rolling down the claustrophobic halls of a spaceship.

Listening post sonds interesting, but keep in mind this (or at least to me) does not seem to be a 4x game. Conquest is not the goal. It's more of a means to an end (that end being Economic superiority).

Games seems more focused on one ship and it's crew. I cant see whole fleets bombarding a plannet. Again, maybe the one ship.....
